Talisker peach smash
Smoke on the BBQ, smoke in the glass
rilling is the epicentre of summer cooking. No matter what is on the grill, from meltingly tender pork ribs to succulent mussels to juicy steaks, no summer feast is complete without a refreshing cocktail in hand. Although it almost seems sacrosanct to enjoy a bit of Talisker any other way than neat, Talisker 10’s smokiness combined with the muddled sweetness of peaches or nectarines make a perfect BBQ cocktail companion.
This single malt whisky’s rugged character gives the cocktail a boldness to live up to the foods coming off the grill. Mellowed just enough by the nectar of the stone fruits, it is shaken and strained to give the cocktail a smooth and refreshing quality. Try it with any of your favorite summertime peaches or nectarines, especially the white peach and nectarine varieties.
How to make it
Place one or two large cubes of ice in a tumbler glass. Set aside. Place the fruit and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker and muddle until pulverised. Add the whisky, liqueur, simple syrup and a couple handfuls of ice to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the cocktail into the tumbler glass and serve.
